KARACHI – The Karachi Administration has set up 52 heat stroke centres in all the six districts in the metropolis in the wake of Met Office’s forecast for the heat wave in the city.
This was stated by the Karachi Commissioner Syed Asif Haider Shah on Saturday. He pointed out arrangements have been made at the centres for the doctors, medicines, water as well as the other requirements. The Karachi administration has established these centres at the city’s government as well as private hospitals.
He also paid surprise visit to various heat stroke centres. A statement from the Commissioner House said that in District South at Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Sarfraz Rafiqui Hospital, the medical superintendent was suspended because of inadequate arrangements and absence.
In other districts, the commissioner expressed satisfaction at the arrangements at the heat stroke centres. It was pointed out that this year the Karachi administration has made better arrangements in collaboration with the Sindh Health Department and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). He directed the deputy commissioners and hospitals managements to ensure the availability of medicines and doctors at the heat stroke centres.
He warned that no dereliction would be tolerated in this very regard. He also inquired about the welfare of the patients affected by the heat wave at the Sindh Government Hospital, New Karachi and inquired about the arrangements. The hospital administration informed that a separate ward has been set up for such patients.
