GHALLANAI/PESHAWAR: At least four personnel of the law enforcement agencies were killed in different acts of violence on Sunday.
Two personnel of the bomb disposal squad (BDS) were killed when two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) hit a BDS and local Khasadar force team in Koz Chamarkand area of Tehsil Safi, some 80 kilometres off Ghalanai, the main town of Mohmand tribal region, here on Sunday, official sources said.
A security official confirmed that a BDS team of MR 203 Wing was on routine patrol when an IED planted by unidentified miscreants blew up, killing Zarbad Shah Khattak.
According to the political administration, another IED exploded in Nawapas area near the Pak-Afghan border. Khasadar force Hawaldar Nabi s/o Pam received critical injuries in the explosion and died on way to hospital.
After the incident, security forces conducted a search operation in the area but no arrest was made till filling of this report.
The splinter group of TTP Jumat-ul-Ahrar claimed responsibility of both the attacks.
Separately, a security personnel was martyred and another injured in a mine blast in Chamar Kand area of Mohmand Agency on Sunday.
It is pertinent to mention here that the law and order situation is not as good in Mohmand Agency as an IED exploded just two days ago, killing a security personnel in the Aleengar area.
In another incident, a policeman was killed while two other persons were wounded in a bomb attack on a police patrol on Pajagi Road of the provincial capital here on Sunday.
Police officials said unidentified militants had planted explosives in a pressure cooker alongside a road near Aslam Dheri, which went off as a patrolling party onboard a police vehicle passed through the area.
The driver of the patrolling vehicle identified as Naveed Khan, a resident of Shiekh Killay, was killed in the explosion. According to the local residents, Sudais, 10, and Yousaf, 40, sustained minor injuries in the blast. They were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital.
The incidents of terrorism have increased in the province over the last few days.
The Pakistani Taliban faction Jamaat-ur-Ahrar had claimed responsibility for a suicide attack at Mardan’s district courts in which at least 14 people were killed and 52 others injured. Six lawyers and two policemen were among the dead. The attack was the second in the space of hours in the area.
The same group also claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on Christian neighbourhood near Warsak Dam on the outskirts of Peshawar where at least one security guard was killed.
