KHAIRPUR: SEPCO has annulled three Express Way feeders due to increased line losses (up to 66%), which angered traders who threatened not to pay the monthly bills in protest against the decision. During his visit on March 11, Water and Power (federal) Secretary Muhammad Younus Dhaga ordered the SEPCO authorities to start Express Way three feeders and four feeders in Sukkur without any load shedding. He issues such directives on demand of the area’s business community. The SEPCO followed the orders and started three feeders namely Khakhi Shah, Rampuri and Radio Pakistan in April. Within six months, the line losses increased up to 66% by dint of theft of 1.2 million units from the three feeders because of corrupt staff and officials of the SEPCO. The four feeders of Sukkur did not take a start. This situation rendered SEPCO Khairpur in trouble and they annulled Express Way system and restarted load shedding for 9 to 12 hours daily at the said feeders. Anjuman-e-Taajran President Ghaffar Shaikh and Sindhi Speakers’ Forum President Ghaffar Mahar strongly condemned the closure of the feeders and demanded an inquiry. Ghaffar threatened not to pay their bills to SEPCO, while Mahar demanded a probe and action against the officials involved in this fiasco.
